MIB supervised practice: Working with textile materials

“In order to master the material, it is not enough for the educator to simply examine it, to study it by the book or to learn how to use it, following a teacher’s explanations. She has to exercise with it for a long time, thus endeavoring to appreciate, by experience, the difficulties or interest which each material may arouse, and to discover, however imperfectly, the impressions it may make on the children. If, on top of that, the educator has the patience to repeat the exercises like a child, she will be able to assess for herself the energy and stamina that a child of a certain age is capable of.” (Maria Montessori) In this video, you will see Montessori students during the supervised practice sessions at the Montessori Institute of Bucharest, working directly with specific educational materials under the careful guidance of AMI certified trainers. Each student explores and practises the presentations, learning how to use the materials so that their deeper purpose can be clearly provided to the child. Trainers offer close guidance and feedback, ensuring that each student develops the knowledge, the skills and the attitudes needed to support children’s spontaneous development.
